When I was a kid, I didn't have a laptop, iPod, Blackberry , PS3 or iPad. I played outside with friends, bruised my knees, made up adventurous fantasies and played hide and seek. I ate what my mom made and McDonalds was a treat. I would think twice before I said "no" to my parents. Life wasn't hard, it was great and I survived.

I appreciate the way I was brought up.
Kids these days are too spoilt.

Oh my! it's year 2011 already. and I will soon be graduating in April next year.
I do not know the success rate of me graduating, but one thing i do know is that I will try my best and persists till the end.

I started school on 29 November 2010.
It's been a month or so.

Throughout this one month plus, i learnt about :

F&B Safety and Hygiene, (e.g Storing of cooked food above raw food, freezer burns etc)
mocktails preparation, (e.g shirley temple, even did a small presentation in front of all the chefs and students)
wine service, (e.g decanting of red wine, opening and serving of wines, reading of wine labels)
basic knife skill cuts, (e.g brunoise, julienne, batonnet, dicing)

and lastly I stepped into the kitchen this week and whipped up a few dishes...

1. Not so appealing but yet delicious berries pancake
2. Roti Pratas (actual name should be paratha)
3. Chapathi
4. Challah Bread

I had fun in the kitchen but it is very tiring and draining at the same time too.

Everyone is working at a fast pace, and I find myself slow and blur compared to others. I've gotta work on this.
Everyone have some experience or do try out at home except me!
Basically, to sum everything up, i find myself weak here.
But it's alright. Holiday is in a week's time! i will probably bake one product out of my textbook and spend time in library reading up on food science.

I will go jogging during my holidays. By the way, my holidays is only one week :(

I've made quite a number of friends. At times, I do not like the working style with them but nevertheless, after everything, I still find them very nice =D

After a long day, I get to snuggle into my slightly warm cosy bed under cold weather.
This is one of the best nights ever.

I slouch on the couch, watched some television programmes. No time limit stating what time I should sleep to ensure full concentration for the next day.
I laid down on bed, with a huge load off my shoulder. No thoughts on the responsibilities for the next day.
All that is on your mind is I am able to wake up anytime tomorrow, even afternoon.

I suppose this is one of the simple pleasures in life.

Year 2010 ended off well with a BBQ countdown party. Got to meet up with some of my classmates that I've lost touch for about 4 years. Actually, I don't like this kind of gatherings before. Have never liked trying to socialize around with people I'm not close too. But oh well, networking is important in the f&b industry, so I'll just take this as a first step. Duh.

Sadly to say, year 2011 wasn't a good start for me. My year 2011 begins with eyes as swollen as goldfish. I had to skip two days of school, which meant missing one entire module and test. Now, i have to appela for a resit. :(

Went to school and received a pile of heavy notes to study for the next day's test. After school, i had to immediately rush home to study, understand and memorise everything that i missed out. And as expected, I didn't did very well in the test.

And yesterday I was the sanitarian and today the sous chef. Everything was vague. Everything was so different, and I was so blur.

My performance in school dropped greatly in year 2011.

And today, my boyfriend complained I did not spend enough time with him. I took my schoolwork to his house to study. I am tired most of the time, and fell asleep in his house all the time. My apprenticeship has not even started, and my boyfriend is already complaining.

It is not easy to juggle between school and love, not mentioning family.

It's going to be a tough year ahead, but I'm sure it is going to be a fulfilling one.

It's nearing the end of the year.

This year, I took the first step into carving my career.
I finally succeed in Getting the nod from my parents.
Then I panicked for few days before the interview and barely struggled through it.
Suffered two months of waiting before I knew I was enlisted.
Then it was the money issue. But I got through it too!

And before I know it, I was already in school!
5 tests in the first three weeks of school.
Hectic but fun!
Two days later, I'll be taking my practical assessment. I'm very nervous now. Still feel like I'm not fully prepared yet.

It's a pretty sad thing that Culinary Arts class and Pastry class would be splitting this week. Bet my class is not going to be so fun anymore. :(

You asked why I haven’t keyed in any yet. It’s because you keep on giving me tasks till I couldn’t find time out to do your ‘not-urgent’ tasks. oh Screw it.

On Monday, I went down to National Library to source for recipes for cakes.
In my mind, all I thought was “ I wanna make something for Shirlyn’s birthday, but what should I do ?” I did scrapbooks and cards before.

So yesterday, I tried out Rocky Road. The sponge cake was not bad. The sauce is the one that spoils.. It’s weird. I don’t know how to describe it.

Apparently, my colleagues seem to like it quite alot. :D

I am not giving up. So I tried again today. I modify the recipe...... And my frosting went wrong. Damn.

How am I going to be a good pastry chef???

Recently, I find myself blanked out and thinking about something. It’s like there’s some THING important I need to figure out. Yet, I can’t figure out what is that THING. Have anyone felt this way before too? Ok. A recap of the month MAY. I went for the school admission interview for At-Sunrice lately. The first interviewer was a French Chef, and I had a hard time trying to figure out the words he said due to the accent. For now, I’m hoping At-Sunrice would accept my application as soon as possible. I would be lost if they didn’t accept me. David paid full expenses of my Redang trip as a birthday gift. I was quite unlucky through the whole trip and came back with several serious insects bites. Some animal or human stole my snorkel mask and I had to compensate back. I had insomnia for the 3 nights. My skin was too sensitive that rashes came out during the trip. I didn’t get to see much fishes. But still, I enjoyed the company and the experience. It would be a whole lot fun with a bigger group of people. For my 21st birthday, I did not organize any fanciful parties. At the strike of 12 midnight, I was playing poker and losing money. I wasted the day sleeping away. This year, Shirlyn and friends made me a beautiful card with all the criterias fulfilled. Hand drawn; checked. Colorful; checked. Handmade; checked. We had a simple dinner and a karaoke session. Choon Ngee didn’t grant me my wish, but Weixiang did! I wished for him to sing a song. That very weekend, I met up with Kinah, Liping, Shuwen and Liya for dinner at Pizza Hut. 5 girls… 20pcs drumlets.. 2 large pizzas..garlic bread.. criss cross fries.. scallops.. Soups & drinks.. Don’t belittle the females’s appetite. Dear Kinah claimed she wanted to take photographs at the rooftop of the esplanade and I followed. Never did I expected a surprise to be there. There was a cake surrounded by candles forming a heart, all lit up brightly. And I received cactus and cookies from the cookie museum! I was so touched and stunned at that moment. Unbelievable. Couldn’t remember what happened to the rest of May. For all I know, I’ve been losing in Poker. What’s wrong, man?

The last time I saw my 72 year old grandmother was during Chinese New Year. On 3rd of March (Wednesday), my family received a call at 10pm saying my grandmother could not recognise anyone. Further enquiries were made and truth was she was already not feeling well on Monday. She felt weak and couldn’t move much. On Wednesday itself, she lied on the bed as her legs were stiff. She woke up not recognising anyone after a nap. My Malaysia’s relatives then quickly brought her to the nearby clinic and got her some pills. Don’t ask me why she is not sent to the hospital. Perhaps everyone thought it’s the usual kind of pain now and then. My mother, uncles and aunties then decided to head up to Malaysia the next day to bring her to a full medical check up. The very next day, 4th March, exactly at 3.33am, came a call saying my grandmother died in her sleep. It was a peaceful death for her and a shocking news for us. My mother muttered to us “Imagine we had never gone up to Malaysia during this New year? We could never see your grandmother again.” We started packing our luggage and left Singapore at 7am, taking the first bus of the day. We arrived in Malacca at 11am. There she was, lying on the bed. I went to greet her, but she did not respond back the usual “ahmin”. Yes, that’s what she called me for the past 20 years of my life. I touched her hand gently, it was icy cold. Her lips were pale white. I stood there still for 20 minutes, observing her and hoping she makes the slightest movements. I thought I saw her move, then I realised it was all my illusions. At Noon, the Funeral Director came and prepared us for the next 5 days. I saw her being lifted into the coffin. Every day was like a dream to me, hoping I would wake up soon. Everything happened too sudden. The first day of the funeral, everyone seems strong. I will wake up every day, peeping into the coffin every time I walk past it, ensuring my grandmother is alright. On the second day of the funeral, I peeped into the coffin and realised she was bleeding from the mouth. On the third day of the funeral, I peeped in again and realised she was bleeding from the nose. By then, we all felt a sharp pain in our hearts. On the fourth day, she was bleeding from her tongue. We sealed the coffin on that day. All my mother, uncles and aunties hardly get any sleep at all. And on the fifth day, we buried her next to my grandfather. I’m glad she died peacefully in her sleep without any sufferings. I’m glad she can finally lied beside my grandfather. But I hate the part which she had to die so ugly bleeding everyday in the coffin. Now, my grandmother’s place is just left with my大舅舅 living there. Throughout this 5 days ritual, I saw clearly 2 ugly relatives of mine. First, My grandmother’s big son’s wife, 大舅母. When my大舅’s children got married, she eventually moved over to the children’s house, leaving my old grandmother all alone on her own. Being filial, My大舅舅 stayed on with my grandmother. Later on, my 大舅舅 suffered stroke and one side of his whole body was paralysed. Being the wife, she did not come back to take care of my 大舅舅, leaving my old grandmother to help take care of him. He recovered fast under my grandmother’s care. Throughout these few years, my大舅母 seldom come back for visits. Those that come back are my大舅母’s children. During the funeral, she was the one who cried the loudest. It was the most dramatic cries I’ve ever seen. Those which you literally fall, those which your whole body bends down and your tears kept flowing down profusely and the words “Ma Ma” kept coming out loud like trumpet. It was so fake I didn’t even want to see. I turned and looked at all my grandmother’s blood related children. They weren’t crying. They were tearing silently. I looked back at my大舅母, and realised real tears are silent. Next, my 三舅母. Everytime I went up to Malacca, I’ve never seen her and her children visiting my grandmother, same goes for new years. All I ever seen was my三舅舅. On the first day of the ritual, she came with her children. She came LATE. To make it worse, she sat down, folded some paper ingots and the stood up and told her children in Chinese “It’s so boring here, I wanna ask your dad to bring me out for shopping” You would be surprised why she said that in front of everyone but all the other adults weren’t there except for me. I pretended to be dumb. I was thinking deep down inside if she’s here for a funeral or here on holiday. She did not helped out in anything at all and all she ever used was her mouth. The second day of the ritual, she came up from Johor to Malacca again, offered a joss stick to my grandmother and then asked her eldest son to drive her out for shopping and sightseeing. On the last day of the funeral and the burial, she did not come at all. Damn, I was disgusted by them.

It’s been a long time since I last updated this blog. So I celebrated Weixiang’s, Mengwee’s and Wee Cheong’s 21st birthday. I’ve got myself a temp job in a Japan Company. I’ve yet to settle my application. [ Damn, I’m slow ] I went up to Melaka for Chinese New Year and received my most stunning hongbao(RM2). Economy’s damn bad, i think. And I came back with lots of souvenirs from the Malaysia mosquitoes. Anyone want some? I could bring you for a visit to the Mr Mosquitoes. Boy, will they be glad to see you! I celebrated Valentine’s day today. I was searching his bag for my present, but he didn’t get me any :o( We watched Valentine’s Day and had our dinner at Morton’s. The movie was so.............so. My pandan cake was a huge success today. ^^ But I couldn't make it into pandan kaya roll. The cake was too hot for me to roll it, yet it will cracked when cool if you roll it. =( Let's hope tml my egg tarts will be a huge success too. I doubt so =X

I slept from 12 noon to 8pm yesterday, and then proceeded to sleeping at 12am till today 10am. I just had a nap at 3pm to 5pm. Oh, what a day! I've quit my job. I'm still looking for 6 months temporary job. Currently, I'm preparing my documents to enrol into Pastery & Bakery Arts in At-Sunrice Academy, For now, I just hope I am able to get into that course together with WDA 90% sponsorship. I have been officially jobless for 19 days and am starting to get worried. =/ Hasn't been jobless for such a long time in my 20 years of life. I've online shopped way too much that it burns a big hole in my jeans pocket. I'm in love with Mahjong & Texas. What to do? Play more =D *winks* that's about it. Screw the headache.

Recently I encountered a very mean online seller. Her nick is Meanie Preston too o_O I'm not the buyer. Liya ordered a blazer from her and they agreed to meet up on friday. However, the seller cancelled off the meeting. (last minute) and postponed it to saturday. On Saturday, the seller wanted to meet at somerset but we were at Orchard. So Liya compromised to meet at Ngee Ann City. At 4.30pm, the seller said she was reaching and we walked over from orchard to Ngee Ann City to wait. At 5.30pm, the seller called to said she is still finding a parking lot and asked to meet at somerset. I was so pissed I went to call the seller and reasoned with her in a bad attitude =X LOL! Of course, she wasn't happy. And she said she's not selling anymore and refunded back the money. She proceeded to saying things like you're buying from me (as though she's big shot) and things like we didn't compromise to meeting her at somerset etc. -.- MEANie preston -.-

People change. I browsed back all the photos and recalled back all the memories. Indeed, people changed. I used to be so close with Hockyong. Then out of sudden, he no longer hangs out with us. It's not him that changed, he's still like before. But somehow, he just doesn't hangs out with us anymore. Till now, I couldn't find the cause of it. Today Weixiang told me he feels like he's going to be the second Hockyong. He feels like he don't know the friends there. He don't like drinking etc. It seems like no one cares or no one bothers to care anymore. What are friends?

The Cracked Pot Story

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots , each hung on the ends of a pole , which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water , at the end of the long walk from the stream to the house , the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily , with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course , the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection , and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do. After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure , it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself , because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled , "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path , but not on the other pot's side?" "That's because I have always known about your flaw , so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path , and every day while we walk back , you water them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are , there would not be this beauty to grace the house." Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

As the days passed, I tend to be more paranoid regarding my parent's health. I think my actions and thinking exagerrates. I came home early today to find that my mom did not bring her handphone out. Nothing much thou. Usually she will be home at 10.30pm. If not, she will wait for my sis to knock off and walk back home together, so usually 11pm reached back home. Today, at 10.50pm, my sis called back home to ask for my mom. To her astonishment, I asked her for my mom too. I panicked, changed into proper clothings and decided to go looking for mom. Just as I was about to step out of my house, I saw my mom walking back home. I heaved a sigh of relief. I seriously think, my paranoid mind exagerrates too much.

I was talking to zhaorong about health. And here's what I said. I like it when I'm sick and David's by my side, and at that point, all you know is that you feel so blessed to have him by your side taking care of you. ( ignoring those sick symptoms ) And when he's sick, I try my best to cancel my day programmes just to be by his side taking care of him. I always buy fish porridge when he's sick. hahahas. ^^

So on saturday, we dined at shokudo@bugis and then shisha@hajilane. Lastly, clubbing@dbl-o. Hate the shisha experience. Don't think I wanna go shisha anymore. Screw that clubbing too, cause of the aftermath. I vomitted terribly. The next day, I was still vomitting in the afternoon. I vomitted lots till my stomach felt so sore. I still don't feel good till now.

I spent the first minute of Shirlyn's birthday with her and I was also the one who spent the last minute of her birthday with her. Cool? We went to surprise her at 12 midnight, but it seems like she kinda gave us a little surprise. I was the only one who likes the cake. All but me finds it creamy. Yesterday's night, we caught My Sister's Keeper. My Sister's Keeper is an awesome show. SAD. I struggled not to cry. I saw Shirlyn's tears flowing down. HAHAS! =X I watched the first 15 minutes of the movie and I deemed it good. Real good. Now there's one more movies added on to my list of "definitely-worth-watching-several-times" movies list. The Mcdonalds Monopoly game is addictive. I've been eating mcdonalds every days of this week. unhealthy & fat.

I was chatting with Shirlyn and Kinah and Shuwen online when suddenly my mother shouted from the room " Switch off tv" So I shouted at my sister to switch off the tv. Then my mother shouted "Help me take feng you from tv" Then I shout back " Why u cannot take urself ar" Then she said " I'm shivering " I jumped out of my chair and went searching for it. Shouted at my sister to look for it too. Went into the room and saw my mother there wearing sweater and covered in blanket shivering. This is the first time I saw such a scene. The windows was closed tight and there was no fan, no wind nor aircon in the room. I panicked. Asked if she wants to go to the hospital, she told me that she'll be fine after sleeping. what the. Like that, I how to sleep peacefully? So scary can? For a moment, I felt that she's going to leave us or wadsoever. I freaked out.
